Presence.

Day 179 – Today’s reading is about presence and begins with a Thich Nhat Hanh quote–my sister-in-law’s favorite. We camped together recently and she awes me with her sense of presence. Camping really helps us experience the presence, the immediacy and the complete opposite of the now. Camping, in many ways, is about letting go of a lot of things that don’t matter. Didn’t bring your charger? Oh, well, just watch the campfire, take a nap, go for a walk, etc. My sister-in-law suffers from what is probably fibromyalgia and she walks as far and as fast as she needs to at that moment–hey, that was okay with me. Slowing down is a good thing for me.
Rolf writes: “The experience of not being present is agitation. You may be distracted by a good thing or a bad thing, but agitation is draining in either case.” Being present is the way, in his opinion and good advice, for asana and daily routine (like work and family, etc.) to become nourishing again. It is important to be present so that we are no “longer stealing those moments away” from ourselves.
